Most Anticipated Films of 2018: Part 1

With a new year, it is time for new films. We took a look at upcoming films of 2018 and compiled a list. So, without further ado, here it is:

Mary Queen Of Scots

30. Mary Queen of Scots

In this biographical drama, director Josie Rourke focuses on Mary Stuart’s endeavors to become ruler of England, which result in Mary Stuart’s imprisonment. The two leading ladies, Mary Stuart and Queen Elizabeth I, are played by Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie respectively. Mary Queen of Scots is scheduled to release on November 2, 2018.

We’re interested in this film because, although there have been many films about Elizabeth I, few place attention on Mary Stuart. Also, we can’t wait to see Ronan and Robbie immersed in the 1500s. Can you imagine?

Besides the intriguing subject matter and excellent cast, we are interested to see in what direction Leder will take this film.

The film is set to explore Armstrong’s preparations and experiences for the famous space mission. Other cast members include Claire Foy, Jon Bernthal, and Pablo Schreiber. 26. If Beale Street Could Talk

Barry Jenkins’s If Beale Street Could Talk is based on James Baldwin’s novel of the same name. Set in 1970s Harlem, this crime romance focuses on a pregnant woman who is trying to prove that her lover is innocence. The cast members include Pedro Pascal, Dave Franco, Ed Skrein, Finn Wittrock, and Regina King.

Jenkin’s Best Picture winner, Moonlight, was such a wonderful film, so we can only imagine the numerous creative possibilities that Jenkins has in-store with this film.

24. Suspiria

Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name) is directing this film about a young ballerina and the shocking discoveries that she uncovers at the German dance academy she is enrolled in. Cast members include Chloë Grace Moretz, Dakota Johnson, and Tilda Swinton.

The film seems to be taking a different approach and direction to the 1977 film of the same name, so it will be fascinating to see where Guadagnino takes the story.

Ballet, horror, and mystery: what more could you want?

23. The House That Jack Built

Lars von Trier’s thriller drama follows a serial killer named Jack (Matt Dillon) over the course of ten years. Besides Dillon, the cast includes Riley Keough, Uma Thurman, and Ed Speleers.

Von Trier (Melancholia) seems to delight in creating dark films, and this one seems to be no different. Who doesn’t like a good psychological thrillers? We just hope that this film focuses more on Jack’s thought process than any unnecessary gore or violence.

Now in a retirement home, Tucker decides to do another robbery. Robert Redford plays Tucker; other cast members are Sissy Spacek, Casey Affleck, Elisabeth Moss, and Danny Glover.

We know that cast and director are stellar, so our question is, is this like an unofficial sequel to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? We can only hope.
