Okay, dear readers, this week we both saw different films: I went to The Hitman’s Bodyguard and Kez went to IT. Soooo, naturally, I cannot offer my feedback on this one.

Time for…

QUESTIONS WITH BUCK

B: Did Pennywise play as big of a part in the film as was advertised?

K: No and yes. Pennywise is in many parts of the film, yet he is not always in his clown form. He embodies the kids’ fears, so, his appearance changes throughout the film.

B: Which characters does the film focus on?

K: The film focuses on the characters that the audience can actually relate to. The main focus is on the kids and their struggles with real life situations, as well as their trying to conquer Pennywise. You really start to bond with the kids because of the things that they are going through. The film does not just focus on all of the scary elements of a horror/thriller that you would expect; it has a lot of heart.

B: Do you think that there are any hidden meanings in this film?

K: This is a horror film, and the thing that makes this film really scary is the kids’ fears. It’s not just a horror flick where someone is chasing people around with an ax; it’s about the kids dealing with their biggest fears. Pennywise is able to tap into people’s fears, especially the kids’ fears. Because fear is something that happens to everyone, it is scary to think that they can take over your life.

B: What do you think this film is trying to accomplish with the characters?

K: Well, the film has some interesting character development. For example, the bully, Henry Bowers, starts out as this really mean character, but you still think that the film will offer him some redemption. Spoiler!!! The bully goes full-out bad guy by the end of the film. We do get to see some of the reasons why he acts out this way because of his dad who often belittles him.

B: Was the film as scary or thrilling as you expected?

K: YES. There were moments where you expected to be scared. Then there were some shocking moments and suspenseful moments. The film takes you on a very emotional and suspenseful ride!

B: At what point in the film did you get scared?

K: From the very beginning, I got a little scared. The music is swelling, it is gloomy and raining, and yeeesssss there is a basement scene. So, of course I was already anticipating the worst. The goriest part was in the beginning which also made me a little wary about what might happen next. The rest of the film is relatively tame. It’s the use of the f-word and some heavier topics that warrant the R-rating.

B: Did this film seem special compared to other horror films you have watched?

K: Well, this film is very special because there is a CREEPY CLOWN. So, yes this film does stand out to me. Also, the kids are really great characters. They have a great connection with each other. The combination of a creepy clown and a great group of kids makes this film pretty special.

B: Did you have any favorite characters?

K: No. I really liked all of the kids. Although there is a main character, the film focuses, for the most part, equally on all of the kids. They all had very relatable fears, and their backstories are very believable.  It is too hard for me to choose one character because they were all just too good!

B: On a scale of 1-10 how scary was this film and why?

K: I would have to say that overall it is about an 8. This film is more of a thriller than horror and gore. One thing that ranked up the scary factor would be Pennywise’s gummy teeth and his drooling. Also, there were some scenes that really took me by surprise, but like I said, I would consider this film to be a thriller…

B: What were some of your favorite moments?

K: SPOILER! I really loved the moment when Beverly Marsh looks at the back of Ben Hanscom’s bedroom door whereon was taped a poster of his favorite band. The other kids had not seen the poster, so Ben was shaking his head, indicating that he did not want them to see. Beverly just closes the door, so that the others would not see the poster. It was a really sweet scene. ♥

B: Was this the creepiest clown you have ever seen?

K: Well, I have seen many creepy clowns, so it is hard to say. But, he is definitely creepy. He could take the cake for the creepy factor. He has this horrifying walk which speeds up… Also, his teeth are something other worldly.

B: What would you rate this film on a scale of 1-10?

K: I would definitely give IT a 10!!! This is an effective thriller/horror film.

B: Lastly, does this film pass the IT FACTOR?

K: Yes, IT passes the IT FACTOR hands down!
